University of California, Santa Barbara

PhD student Ramdas Satyan enjoyed a fruitful internship at the ocean-front campus of the University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB). Mr. Satyan worked with Prof. Kenneth Rose in the Signal Compression Lab at USCB.

This internship was directed at making video communication more robust to provide end-to-end Quality of Service and to solve the problem of errors and packet loss resulting from the use of motion compensated prediction. Mr. Satyan’s PhD work up to now had been devoted to the study of this problem, and in particular the design and implementation of end-to-end approaches. This internship has allowed him to work with a world-leading research group in this area, who pioneered a few of the most popular techniques in use today.

This collaborative effort has resulted in promising performance gains and has led to a conference paper submitted to an IEEE International Workshop, a joint publication authored by Ramdas Satyan, Prof. Fabrice Labeau and Prof. Kenneth Rose.
