SYTACom Org Chart

SYTACom is a regroupement stratégique funded by the Fonds de recherche du Québec - Nature et technologies (FRQNT). SYTACom is the only systems- and applications- centric ICT regroupement in Quebec: the Centre regroups 50 ICT professors whose expertise spans all layers of systems and communications.

SYTACom supports research excellence through incentive programs, scientific activities, sharing of world-class infrastructure, and coordination of national research initiatives.

Centre Director

Professor David V. Plant (McGill) is the Principal Investigator and founding Director of SYTACom. He is responsible for the overall management of SYTACom. The Centre Director is accountable to the Board of Directors, McGill University and FRQNT.

The Office of the Centre Director manages all daily logistics associated with running SYTACom, including reporting, communications, and administration.

The Centre Director is assisted by the Associate Director-Operations and the Scientific Director

Board of Directors

The Board of Directors (Board) reviews SYTACom’s annual progress report, approves annual operating budgets, oversees adherence to procedures, and revises strategy, objectives, and priorities as necessary.

The Board is accountable to FRQNT and to the participating institutions for management of funds and achievement of research objectives. The Board approves membership on the MTAC and the SAC.

Executive of the Board of Directors

The Executive of the Board of Directors is responsible for Board-level decision making between the annual meetings of the Board.

Scientific Advisory Committee

Under the leadership of the Scientific Director, the Scientific Advisory Committee (SAC) holds primary responsibility for planning and monitoring the SYTACom research enterprise.

The SAC reviews research progress and provides recommendations to the Board regarding future scientific and training activities. The SAC also recommends the addition of new researchers and reviews applications made to the SYTACom Grants program.

The SAC is composed of the Centre and Scientific Directors, and members from each participating institution.

Operations Committee

Under the leadership of the Associate Director–Operations, the Operations Committee is comprised of 4 coordinators who are each responsible for the management of the portfolio described in their position: the Internships Coordinator; the Student Coordinator; the Outreach and Dissemination Coordinator; and the Infrastructure Coordinator.

Multidisciplinary Technical Advisory Committee

The Multidisciplinary Technical Advisory Committee (MTAC) will advise the Board and SAC on the technical direction of the research program and will make recommendations for strengthening and expanding the relationships between SYTACom researchers and end-users.

In the context of their advantaged perspective on emerging research needs, the MTAC will also make recommendations on infrastructure planning and investments.

Finally, the MTAC will informally provide consultation and advice to SYTACom researchers.
